With their popularity going strong, gourmand fragrances are nowadays more diverse than ever. Next to the ones dominated by literal renditions of edible, mainly sweet notes (like chocolate, caramel or praline), a whole new array of delectable notes and shades has emerged in niche perfumery. The exploration of savory and beverage notes, as well as the release of complex, sophisticated perfumes in which the gustatory facet coexists with others, have resulted in making the notion of “gourmand” increasingly more versatile.
At Parfums Dusita, our perfumer Pissara Umavijani has incorporated distinct gourmand facets in some of her fougère and floral creations, in a manner that exudes elegance and sophistication. Erawan, La Rhapsodie Noire, Anamcara and Rosarine are cherished both by gourmand enthusiasts and by perfume lovers who usually don’t opt for this particular genre. Before taking a closer look at these four fragrances, here’s a little teaser for our Blog readers: the next Dusita perfume, to be released in the first months of 2025, will be cozy, enveloping and quite straightforwardly delicious, too!
Gourmand Fougères: Erawan & La Rhapsodie Noire
Erawan, named after a famous national park of Thailand and the elephant god of Thai Hindu mythology, reflects the feelings of contentment and rejuvenation, after an energetic day spent in the great outdoors. Its fougère pillar is based on a striking blend of green, earthy and woody notes (petitgrain, clary sage, vetiver, cedarwood, oakmoss); its highly relaxing and deeply comforting gourmand impression of dark cocoa, milky tea and nutritious cereal is created by the synergy of hay absolute, Madagascan vanilla and tonka bean.
La Rhapsodie Noire, a scented love letter to Paris of the 1920s, celebrates the energy and creativity of that era, by embellishing a classic fougère structure (clary sage, lavender, oakmoss, tonka) with a dynamic, nocturnal gourmand vibe. Next to the honeyed, suave florals (mimosa, broom) and cigar nuances, a series of decadent, enticing notes evoke the hedonistic, joie-de-vivre spirit of “Les Années Folles”: coffee laced with rum, tonka beans glazed with burnt sugar and dulcet-toned vanilla echoing mouthwatering French pastries.
Gourmand Florals: Anamcara & Rosarine
Anamcara, an olfactive ode to friendship and togetherness, is centered around tuberose. A halo of radiant fruitiness is instrumental in giving an amicable, easygoing feeling to this extravagant flower: nectarous blood orange, apricot and peach, combined with a sparkling tea accord, make for an utterly blissful gourmand vibe that teases out the fruity shades of the tuberose and the other floral notes (jasmine, freesia, rose). Furthermore, the Madagascan vanilla adds creaminess to both the fragrance’s star flower and its earthy base (sandalwood, patchouli, cedar).
Rosarine, a loving tribute to the intricate, glorious beauty of the rose, emphasizes not only on the floral, green and earthy aspects of the “queen of flowers” but also on its delectable olfactive dimension. Next to the scent’s luscious floral heart (May and Damask rose, jasmine, iris), fresh and airy elements (bergamot, coriander, ambrette seed) and rich woody base (sandalwood, patchouli, amyris), a pleasurable array of fruity, spicy and ambrosial notes (lychee, raspberry, cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa) unveils and amplifies the rose’s inherent deliciousness.
